Maldives for Bangladeshi Travellers

The short version

The Maldives is one of the few destinations where a Bangladeshi passport holder needs nothing in advance. The tourist visa is granted on arrival, free of charge, for thirty days. That single fact shapes everything else: what you carry to the airport, how long you can stay, and what happens if you need to remain longer.

This page summarises the routes and the practical requirements behind them. The detailed guide, with the document list item by item, the fees and the source dates, sits on the Maldives visa guide.

Entry routes and visa options

Maldives Immigration publishes seven routes that meet this site's sourcing bar. For a Bangladeshi traveller, three of them cover almost every real case. Tourist visa on arrival Thirty days from the date of entry, at no charge, granted by the immigration officer at the port of entry. There is no pre-approval application and no official processing time, because nothing is processed before you fly. It is a single-entry visa: section 19 of the Immigration Act expressly excludes the tourist visa from the Controller's discretion to grant multiple entry.

The stay can be extended by a further sixty days on payment of the statutory fee, MVR 750 for every three months or part of three months. The extension is applied for through the IMUGA portal, is officially stated to take 48 hours, and was digitalised from 23 April 2026. Business visa MVR 750 for every three months or part of three months, non-refundable, multiple entry, and it must be approved before you arrive. Applications run through the Business Portal reached from one.gov.mv, with payment through BandeyriPay. The two official sources disagree on the maximum stay — three months within a 12-month period on the Immigration page, up to six months within 12 months on the oneGov guideline — and both are reported rather than one being chosen. Work visa Employer-led from the first step. The Work Permit is obtained first, the worker arrives on an Entry Pass, and the employer must apply for the Work e-Visa through Xpat within 15 days of arrival. Work visa stickers ceased to be valid after 23 November 2025. The work-permit deposit rate published for Bangladesh is MVR 8,000, and MIRA publishes the permit fee at MVR 350 per month.

Resident, dependent and marriage routes exist as well; each has its own document list in the full guide. Two further routes that exist in Maldivian law are deliberately not summarised here, because no official fee or document list could be read for them.

Which route suits which traveller

  • Tourist visa on arrival covers holidays, family visits of under a month, and short medical trips where treatment is expected to finish inside the permitted stay.
  • An extension suits a stay that runs past thirty days without changing purpose. It needs a passport-size photograph taken in the previous 12 months and a record in IMUGA.
  • Business visa suits meetings, negotiations and supplier visits, not employment. From 15 September 2026 a person who entered on a Business Visa or a Special Visa can no longer obtain a Work Permit while remaining in the country.
  • Work visa suits a confirmed job with a licensed employer that has already secured a Work Permit and Entry Pass. It cannot be arranged after arriving as a visitor.

Practical travel basics

What the arrival checkpoint asks for, from the tourist-visa page updated 10 September 2026:

  • A passport with a machine-readable zone and at least one month's validity. Passports carrying an extended validity are not accepted for entry.
  • A complete itinerary: confirmed return tickets, a prepaid booking at a facility registered with the Ministry of Tourism, and funds sufficient to cover the stay — or a sponsorship approved by Maldives Immigration.
  • The Traveller Declaration, submitted through IMUGA within 96 hours before the flight. It is free, and every traveller, children included, submits an individual form.
  • A yellow fever vaccination certificate if you arrive from, or have recently travelled through, a country with a risk of yellow-fever transmission. Children under one year are exempt.
  • Each child and minor travelling on their own passport.
No daily spending figure appears on the Immigration requirements list, so none is quoted here. Confirm the registration status of any accommodation before paying a deposit, and keep the booking confirmation with your travel documents.

Healthcare context, in general terms

There is no medical-treatment visa for the Maldives. Maldives Immigration publishes no medical visa page, and the Foreign Ministry's visitor pages cover the same set of routes without one. A patient travelling from Bangladesh therefore arrives on the tourist visa on arrival. Where treatment must continue past the permitted stay, the mechanism in the Immigration Act is the Special Visa under section 17(b), which covers a foreign national who was under medical treatment when the original visa expired and needs to continue it. No operational Special Visa page — documents, fee, processing time — was found, so those details have to be confirmed with Immigration rather than assumed.

Health insurance is not a condition of the tourist visa. It is mandatory for the business, work and dependent categories, and for a new marriage visa. That is a visa condition, not a statement about the care available.

This page does not rank facilities, quote treatment prices or describe outcomes, and nothing here is medical advice. For the groundwork, see medical travel and the hospital directory. Treat both as starting points and confirm arrangements directly with the facility before you commit to dates.

Next step

Read the full Maldives visa guide for the item-by-item document lists, all seven routes, and the places where official sources contradict each other. Compare the destination with others on the countries hub. If you want your documents checked against the route you intend to use, book a consultation.

Requirements change. Every figure above was read from the official source named in the full guide and carries a checked date of 17 September 2026. Confirm the current rule on the official source before you apply.
