The short answer
A police clearance certificate (PCC) is issued by Bangladesh Police through a single online system at pcc.police.gov.bd. The fee is ৳1,500, paid either by treasury challan from any branch of Bangladesh Bank or Sonali Bank under code 1-7301-0001-2681, or online by credit or debit card with the service charge that applies.
You need a passport with at least three months of validity left, a scan of the passport data page attested by a first-class gazetted officer, and a present address that matches the permanent or present address printed in your passport and at which you actually live.
What you must submit
The portal lists three things. All three have to be in place before the application can be submitted.
1. A completed online application
The form is filled in on the portal in four parts: personal details, present and permanent address, the uploaded scans, then a review screen. Once the application is submitted on the review screen, nothing in it can be changed.
2. Your passport data page, attested
A scanned copy of the passport information page, attested by a first-class gazetted officer. If you live abroad, the attestation must come from the Bangladesh Embassy or High Commission in that country. Foreign nationals apply with a copy attested by a Justice of the Peace in their own country.
3. The fee
৳1,500, paid either by treasury challan from any branch of Bangladesh Bank or Sonali Bank under code 1-7301-0001-2681, or online by credit or debit card including any prescribed service charge.
Who it is for, and who issues it
The online system issues police clearance certificates to Bangladeshi citizens who are going abroad or already living abroad, and to foreign nationals who live in Bangladesh and need one before returning home or travelling on.
If you need a police clearance for a job or another purpose inside Bangladesh rather than abroad, this portal is not the route. Contact the district DSB office of the district you live in, or the city SB office if your address is in a metropolitan area.
How to apply, step by step
1. Register on the portal
Create an account at pcc.police.gov.bd. You can apply for yourself or on someone else's behalf from the same account.
2. Log in and start a new application
After logging in, open the Apply menu and complete the application form.
3. Enter your details and addresses
The first part of the form takes your personal details, the second your present and permanent address. Police verification is carried out in the district or metropolitan area of the present address you give, so it has to be an address you actually live at.
4. Upload your scanned documents
The third part of the form is where the attested passport data page is attached, together with any other document the portal requires in your case.
5. Check the review screen before submitting
The fourth part shows everything you entered and you can go back and correct it. After submission there is no way to amend the application.
6. Pay the fee and collect the certificate
Pay by treasury challan or by card, then follow the delivery instructions given on the portal. Take a copy of your passport or of the application when you collect the certificate; if the applicant is abroad, the person collecting it must bring an authorisation letter attested by the embassy or by a Justice of the Peace.
Where applications most often stall
Each of these comes from a condition the portal states, and each one stops an application rather than slowing it down.
The address does not match your passport
Your present address must be either the permanent or the present address printed in your passport, and you must be a resident of it. Verification happens in that district or metropolitan area.
Your passport is an old MRP with no address printed in it
Attach a copy of your national identity card, birth registration certificate, or a certificate from your local ward councillor, attested by a first-class gazetted officer.
Your passport was issued or re-issued outside Bangladesh
Upload a scan of the page carrying your latest arrival stamp in Bangladesh.
You are applying from abroad
An attested authorisation letter naming the person who will collect the certificate, with that person's national identity number, has to be uploaded with the application.
Less than three months of passport validity left
The portal requires at least three months of remaining passport validity at the time of application.
Questions people ask
How much does a police clearance certificate cost in Bangladesh?
৳1,500. It is paid either by treasury challan from any branch of Bangladesh Bank or Sonali Bank under code 1-7301-0001-2681, or online by credit or debit card, in which case the prescribed service charge applies.
How long does a police clearance certificate take in Bangladesh?
The portal does not publish a processing time, so this page does not print one. You can follow the application by SMS instead: send PCC S followed by your application reference number to 26969, and the reply carries the latest status.
Do you need a police clearance certificate to leave Bangladesh?
Not according to the sources checked for this page. It is the receiving country or the employer that asks for one. Canada, for example, requires a police certificate when you apply for permanent residence, for citizenship and for some temporary residence programmes, and asks for the scanned original carrying the seal and signature.
Can you get a police clearance certificate while living abroad?
Yes. Upload a copy of your passport data page attested by the Bangladesh Embassy or High Commission in the country where you live, together with an attested authorisation letter naming your collector and that person's national identity number.
Where do you go if you need a police clearance inside Bangladesh?
Not to this portal. Contact the district DSB office of the district you live in, or the city SB office if your address is in a metropolitan area.
