Who this is for: Any Bangladeshi national applying for an Indian visa — whether tourist, medical, business, student, or any other category. This guide covers the universal process; category-specific documents are linked where relevant.

Before you start: eligibility and pre-application checklist

Passport validity

Your Bangladeshi passport must have at least 6 months of validity from your intended date of entry into India. You also need at least 2 blank pages — one for the visa sticker, one for entry/exit stamps. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying.

Photo specs

Indian visa photos must be 2×2 inches (51×51 mm or 350×350 pixels), with a plain white background. The photo must be taken within the last 3 months. No glasses, no headwear (except for religious reasons), and your face must occupy 70–80% of the frame. Use the AGB photo checker tool to validate your photo before uploading.

Documents per category

Each visa category requires different supporting documents — a hospital invitation for medical, a business letter for business, admission proof for student. Use the AGB document checklist generator to get your category-specific list, or see the full Indian visa documents checklist.

Web File saved

When you complete the online form, the system generates a Web File Number. Save this — it is your application reference for tracking, IVAC booking, and collection. Print all pages of the completed form.

The online application form (section by section)

The form is hosted at indianvisa-bangladesh.nic.in. It is the only official portal for Bangladeshi applicants. Do not use any other website claiming to process Indian visas online.

Personal details and photo upload

Enter your full name exactly as it appears on your passport — any mismatch will cause rejection. Upload your photo matching the specs above. The system may reject photos that are too large, have wrong dimensions, or a non-white background.

Travel and accommodation

Enter your expected date of arrival, cities you plan to visit, and your accommodation address in India. For medical visa applicants, this is the hospital address. For tourists, a hotel booking or host address works.

Visa category and purpose

Select the correct visa category (Tourist, Business, Medical, Student, Entry X, etc.). The category determines which supporting documents you need. If you pick the wrong one, you may need to start a new application — IVAC cannot change the category after submission.

Documents declaration

Declare any previous Indian visas, visits, and any visa refusals. Be truthful — misrepresentation leads to automatic refusal and potential future bans.

Save and retrieve later

You can save a partially completed form and return to it later using your Temporary Application ID. Once you click "Submit," the Web File Number is generated and the form is locked for editing.

Booking your IVAC appointment

After completing the online form, book an appointment at your jurisdictional IVAC centre through ivacbd.com. The system uses an e-token slot-booking model — you pick a date and time window.

Slots are released in batches and fill up quickly. If you do not see available dates, check again at different times of day. As of June 2026, IVAC is operating at roughly 15–20% of pre-December 2025 capacity, so slots are limited. If your case is genuinely urgent (medical emergency), contact the IVAC helpline (Dhaka: 09612 333 666) for guidance.

Use the AGB jurisdiction finder to confirm which IVAC centre covers your district.

What to print and carry to IVAC

  1. Completed form printout (all pages) — print every page of the submitted form, including the barcode page. Sign where indicated.
  2. Passport (original + photocopy) — your current passport with 6+ months validity, plus a photocopy of the bio page and any previous Indian visas.
  3. Two recent photos — 2×2 inch, white background, matching the specs uploaded to the form. Glue one to the form and carry one spare.
  4. Supporting documents by category — hospital invitation (medical), business letter (business), admission letter (student), etc. See the documents checklist for your category.
  5. Old passport (if any) — if you had a previous passport with Indian visa history, carry it for reference.
  6. Cash: ৳1,500 BDT — the IVAC service charge, payable at the counter. No online payment is available as of June 2026.

Submission day at IVAC

Counter flow

Arrive at least 30 minutes before your slot time. After security screening, proceed to the token counter with your e-token confirmation. The staff will verify your documents at the initial check counter, then direct you to the submission counter.

Biometrics capture

After document submission, you will be directed to the biometrics station for fingerprints and a digital photograph. This is mandatory for all applicants aged 12 and above.

Web File Number receipt

After submission and biometrics, you receive a printed receipt showing your Web File Number — the same number generated during the online form. This is your tracking reference.

Delivery slip

You also receive a delivery slip with your expected collection date. Keep this slip — you need it to collect your passport.

After submission: collection and what to do if your visa is granted

Track your application status at passtrack.net using your Web File Number and passport number. The tracker updates 24–48 hours behind the actual decision. See the full Indian visa tracking guide for details.

When the tracker shows "Ready for Pick-up," visit IVAC during delivery hours (Dhaka: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday–Thursday) with your delivery slip and NID for identity verification. Someone else can collect on your behalf with a signed authorisation letter and their NID.

If your visa is refused

Indian visa refusals for Bangladeshi nationals do not come with a reason. If your application is refused, you can reapply — there is no formal cooling-off period, but you will pay a fresh ৳1,500 service charge. Review your documents and consider what may have been weak. See the detailed Indian visa refusal and reapplication guide for next steps.

Common mistakes to avoid
  • Name on the form does not match your passport exactly — this causes automatic rejection
  • Photo does not meet specs (wrong size, background, or glasses visible) — the system or IVAC counter will reject it
  • Selecting the wrong visa category — IVAC cannot change this after submission
  • Not printing all pages of the form — you need every page including the barcode
  • Arriving without cash — IVAC does not accept card, bKash, or online payment as of June 2026
  • Paying anyone who claims to offer "fast-track" processing — no such service exists officially
  • Using a website other than indianvisa-bangladesh.nic.in — fake portals steal your data
What is the official Indian visa application website for Bangladesh?

indianvisa-bangladesh.nic.in is the only official online application portal for Bangladeshi nationals. IVAC slot booking is done separately at ivacbd.com. Do not use any other website.

What photo size is required for an Indian visa?

2×2 inches (350×350 pixels), white background, taken within the last 3 months. No glasses, no headwear except for religious reasons. Your face should occupy 70–80% of the frame.

How much passport validity do I need?

At least 6 months from your intended date of entry into India, plus at least 2 blank pages for the visa sticker and entry/exit stamps.

What happens if my online form has an error?

If you have not yet submitted the form at IVAC, you can log back in using your Temporary Application ID and edit it. Once submitted at the IVAC counter, errors can only be corrected by starting a fresh application.

What if I cannot upload my photo?

The photo must match the exact specs — 350×350 px, white background, JPEG format, under 1 MB. Common issues include wrong dimensions, file too large, or a non-white background. Use the AGB photo checker to validate before uploading.

What if my name on the form does not match my passport?

Always enter your name exactly as it appears on your passport. Any mismatch — even a missing middle name or extra initial — will lead to rejection. Visit IVAC for guidance before submission if you are unsure.

Can foreign nationals living in Bangladesh apply at IVAC?

Yes. IVAC Dhaka and Chittagong serve foreign passport holders during separate hours (typically 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.) and with different fee structures.

What is the IVAC jurisdiction rule?

You must apply at the IVAC centre whose jurisdiction covers your district of residence. Use the AGB jurisdiction finder to confirm which centre you should visit.

What if there are no IVAC appointment slots?

Slots are released in batches and fill quickly. Try checking at different times of day. As of June 2026, IVAC is operating at 15–20% of pre-December 2025 capacity, so availability is limited. For genuine medical emergencies, contact the IVAC helpline (Dhaka: 09612 333 666).

Can I track my application and pay online?

You can track your application at passtrack.net. As of June 2026, online payment is not yet available — IVAC has invited tenders for a payment gateway but it is not rolled out. Pay ৳1,500 in cash at the IVAC counter.
