Visiting Indian relatives

For visiting relatives (siblings, cousins, family members) in India, the standard Tourist (T) visa is the route. Apply at IVAC. Most Bangladeshi family visit applications are granted 30 days to 1 year single/multiple entry. See visiting Indian relatives guide.

Dependent (X) visa for family of foreign workers/students

If a family member (spouse, parent, child) is legally residing in India on an Employment, Business, or Student visa, you can apply for a Dependent (X) visa to join them. The X visa is tied to the principal visa holder’s status. See Dependent visa guide.

OCI: who is eligible

OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) is a lifelong residence and entry status. Eligibility is strictly ancestry-based: typically you must have an ancestor (parent, grandparent, great-grandparent) who was an Indian citizen at the time of Indian Independence (1947) or before 1950. For most Bangladeshi nationals, OCI eligibility traces to pre-Partition Indian roots that can be documented (1947 or earlier). It is not a pathway for those without such ancestry.
