Singapore Visit Visa from Bangladesh: Steps and Fees

Bangladeshi ordinary passport holders need a Singapore entry visa before travelling — there is no visa on arrival — and the High Commission in Dhaka requires the application to be submitted online through one of its Authorised Visa Agents. The processing fee is S$30 and is non-refundable, and you are advised to apply within 30 days before arrival.

Do you need this visa?

ICA publishes a list of travel documents that require a valid Singapore entry visa, and Bangladesh is on it. The High Commission in Dhaka states the same thing in its own words: visitors holding ordinary Bangladeshi passports must apply for an entry visa before arrival. Holders of Bangladeshi diplomatic, official and service passports are exempt.

A Singapore visa is not an immigration pass. ICA describes it as pre-entry permission to travel to Singapore and seek entry. The officer at the checkpoint decides whether you are admitted and for how long, and ICA states that holding a valid visa does not guarantee entry.

One route that would otherwise apply is not open here. ICA's Visa-Free Transit Facility covers nationals of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Georgia, India, Turkmenistan and Ukraine, and selected PRC travel documents — Bangladesh is not on that list, so the transit route is not a substitute for a visa.

How the application is submitted

There is no counter you can walk up to. ICA states that it does not accept submission of visa applications over the immigration counters, and the Dhaka High Commission states that applications must be submitted online through one of its Authorised Visa Agents.

Through an Authorised Visa Agent in Dhaka

The High Commission states that applications for Bangladeshi nationals must be submitted online through one of its Authorised Visa Agents in Dhaka. The agent submits on your behalf and prints the e-Visa if it is approved.

Through a local contact in Singapore

ICA accepts an application submitted online by a local contact — a Singapore citizen or permanent resident aged 21 or over with a Singpass account — or by a strategic partner.

At a Singapore overseas mission

ICA also accepts an application at the nearest Singapore overseas mission or through its authorised visa agent. The mission's own website sets the procedure.

Documents you need

ICA requires original documents plus official translations where the document is not in English, and copies for ICA to retain. Additional supporting documents may be requested on a case-by-case basis.

Form 14A

The application form, duly completed and signed by you. ICA states the application is made on the information declared in this form.

Letter of Introduction (Form V39A)

Issued by your local contact in Singapore. For a social visit, any Singapore citizen or PR aged 21 or over can sign. For a business visit, a Singapore-registered company can act as the local contact, and the LOI must still be signed by a citizen or PR aged 21 or over. The High Commission also accepts a LOI issued by your Embassy if you cannot secure one from a local contact.

Photograph

Taken within the last 3 months, in colour, against a white background with a matt or semi-matt finish, showing the full face without headgear (headgear worn for religious or racial custom is accepted if it does not hide the facial features), with the face measuring 25 mm to 35 mm from chin to crown. ICA's online submission accepts jpg, jpeg, heic, heif and png up to 8MB, at 400 x 514 pixels.

Passport

Photocopy of the biodata page, with the passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Singapore.

Translations

ICA accepts translations by the embassy of the issuing country, by a notary public in Singapore or the issuing country, or private translations attested or notarised by either. ICA states it does not endorse private translation companies.

Fees and processing time

Two official figures for processing time are published, and they differ. Both are stated here rather than one being chosen, because they describe different submission channels and either may be the one that applies to you.

Visa processing fee

S$30, non-refundable, payable by Visa or MasterCard. The High Commission states the Bangladesh Taka equivalent is payable per applicant, excluding the agent's fee.

Time stated by ICA

Within three working days, excluding the day of submission. ICA adds that some applications take longer.

Time stated by the Dhaka High Commission

At least five working days, excluding the day of submission, and longer during peak periods.

What this means

These are two official figures for two channels, not a conflict to resolve by picking one. Plan around the longer estimate.

What to do, in order

1. Confirm which passport you hold: ordinary passports need the visa, diplomatic and official passports do not.

2. Arrange the Letter of Introduction first, because it depends on someone else — a local contact in Singapore, or your Embassy if you cannot secure one.

3. Prepare the photograph to the published specification before you approach an agent; it is the most common reason for a delay.

4. Submit online through an Authorised Visa Agent in Dhaka, or through your local contact in Singapore, within 30 days before arrival.

5. Expect at least five working days. Do not book non-refundable travel on the assumption of a faster decision.

6. Submit the SG Arrival Card separately within three days before arrival.

If your application is approved, your local contact, a strategic partner or your Authorised Visa Agent can print a copy of the e-Visa for you through the ICA e-Service.

After you arrive

ICA issues an electronic visit pass, or e-Pass, at the checkpoint and notifies you by email, and there is no endorsement in your passport. The period of stay granted is decided there and is not tied to the validity of your visa, so read the e-Pass rather than the visa to find your last day of stay.

To stay longer you apply for an extension of your short-term visit pass. ICA accepts extension applications online only and will not accept a walk-in, the application can be made when your pass has 14 days or less of validity left, and Bangladeshi passport holders are on the list that requires a local sponsor. ICA lists an extension fee of S$40 where the extension takes the stay to 90 days or more from entry, and the S$30 visa fee where it applies, and states that visitors on a short-term visit pass must not work or run a business in Singapore.

What this page does not cover

• Whether you will be granted a visa. ICA states each application is considered on its own merits and that a valid visa does not guarantee entry.

• The agent's own fee. The High Commission publishes its S$30 charge and states that the agent's fee is separate, but it does not publish the agents' prices.

• Long-term passes. Work, student and dependant passes are different applications with different rules.

• Currency you carry in or out. ICA publishes a separate page on taking cash in and out of Singapore.

• A guarantee of any processing outcome. Both authorities state that some applications take longer.

Questions people ask

Do Bangladeshi passport holders need a visa, or is there a visa on arrival?

You need a visa before you travel. ICA lists Bangladesh among the travel documents that require a valid Singapore entry visa, and the High Commission states that visitors holding ordinary Bangladeshi passports must apply before arrival. There is no visa on arrival, and Bangladesh is not among the nationalities eligible for the Visa-Free Transit Facility.

Can I submit the application at the airport or over the counter?

No. ICA states that it does not accept submission of visa applications over the immigration counters. The High Commission states that applications for Bangladeshi nationals must be submitted online through one of its Authorised Visa Agents in Dhaka.

How much does the Singapore visa cost from Bangladesh?

The processing fee is S$30 and is non-refundable. The High Commission states that the Bangladesh Taka equivalent is payable per applicant, excluding the agent's fee. That agent fee is not published.

How long does the visa take?

It depends which authority's channel you read. ICA states three working days excluding the day of submission; the High Commission in Dhaka states at least five working days excluding the day of submission, and longer during peak periods. Both state that some applications take longer, so plan around the longer figure.

What is the Letter of Introduction, and who can sign it?

The LOI is Form V39A, issued by a local contact in Singapore. For a social visit any Singapore citizen or permanent resident aged 21 or over can act as the local contact. For a business visit a Singapore-registered company acts as the local contact, but the LOI must still be signed by a citizen or permanent resident aged 21 or over. If you cannot secure one, the High Commission states that an LOI issued by your Embassy can also be accepted for social and business visits.

Is the SG Arrival Card the visa?

No. ICA states plainly that the SG Arrival Card is not a visa. It is required separately, before arrival, within three days including the day of arrival, and it is free of charge. ICA adds that it does not support or endorse commercial entities that charge to submit it.

How long can I stay, and can I extend it?

Your period of stay is not tied to the validity of the visa. ICA issues an electronic visit pass at the checkpoint, and the period granted is decided by the officer. To extend, the application must be submitted online, walk-ins are not accepted, and it can be submitted when your pass has 14 days or less of validity left. Bangladeshi passport holders need a local sponsor for the extension. ICA lists an extension fee of S$40 where the extension takes the stay to 90 days or more, plus the S$30 visa fee where applicable, and processes extensions within five working days. Visitors on a short-term visit pass may not work or run a business in Singapore.

Method: every rule and figure on this page is quoted from the official pages listed, read on the date shown. Where ICA and the High Commission publish different processing times, both are given and the longer one is the planning figure; this page does not pick one and present it as the answer. No agent fee is printed, because no authority publishes one. This page states the published rules and does not predict the outcome of any application.
