What is the MED visa

The Indian Medical (MED) visa is a dedicated visa category for foreign nationals seeking medical treatment at a recognised Indian hospital. For Bangladeshi applicants, it is typically granted for up to 1 year with triple-entry — allowing you to travel back and forth for follow-up appointments. Your visa is tied to the hospital named in your invitation letter.

Who is eligible

Any Bangladeshi national who has been accepted for treatment at a NABH-accredited Indian hospital registered on the AYUSH portal is eligible. The hospital must generate an AYUSH Medical Visa Reference Number and include it in your invitation letter. Without this reference number, your application will not be processed.

Documents required

Medical reports

All relevant reports, scans, lab results, and a treating physician’s summary from Bangladesh. These are used both to obtain the hospital invitation and to support the visa application.

Hospital invitation letter with AYUSH reference

The most critical document. Must include the AYUSH Medical Visa Reference Number, the hospital’s NABH accreditation details, your proposed treatment, estimated duration, and estimated cost. See how to get the invitation letter.

Financial proof

Bank statements covering treatment costs plus attendant accommodation. Probashi Kallyan Bank medical loan documents if applicable. See financial proof guide.

Attendant relationship proof

Marriage certificate (spouse), birth certificates (children), NID copies — all notarised and apostilled via MOFA e-Apostille. Required for each MED X attendant application.

Step-by-step application

  1. Contact the hospital’s International Patient Desk with your reports. Request an invitation letter with AYUSH reference number. Allow 3–7 working days.
  2. Fill the online form at indianvisa-bangladesh.nic.in selecting “Medical” as visa category. Upload photo (350×350 px, white background).
  3. Book IVAC appointment at ivacbd.com. Patient and attendants can book separate or same-day slots.
  4. Submit at IVAC with form printout, passport, photos, invitation letter, medical reports, financial proof, and ৳1,500 cash. Attendants submit simultaneously with their MED X forms and relationship proof.
  5. Complete biometrics at the IVAC biometrics station.
  6. Track at passtrack.net using your Web File Number. Medical visas typically show movement within 5–10 working days.
  7. Collect when status shows “Ready for Pick-up.” Verify the visa details (dates, hospital name, entry count) before leaving.

After your visa: FRRO expectations

If your treatment requires a continuous stay exceeding 180 days, register with FRRO within 14 days of arrival at indianfrro.gov.in. Your visa is tied to the designated hospital — changing hospitals requires FRRO Hospital Change endorsement. See FRRO for medical patients.

What documents do I need for an Indian medical visa?

Online form, photos, passport, hospital invitation letter with AYUSH reference number, medical reports, financial proof, and (for attendants) relationship proof documents notarised and apostilled.

How long is an Indian medical visa valid?

Up to 1 year with triple-entry, allowing return visits for follow-up treatment. Actual validity depends on consular discretion and your treatment plan.
