Germany Visa Guide for Bangladeshis (2026)

Guidance and resources for Bangladeshi readers.

At a glance

Where should a Bangladeshi applicant start?

Start with the visa purpose and the destination requirements in this guide, then use the linked official sources to confirm the current rules before you pay or apply. Read the pathways, the fee, the documents and the application details in order, then confirm your next step against the official source.

Fee figures on this page are sourced to the European Commission (DG HOME) and the German Embassy Dhaka, with the date each source was read. Requirement and processing claims are not covered by a published-source check. Requirements change β€” check the official source before you apply.
StickerStay: Up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day Schengen windowFee: EUR 90

Germany draws two very different kinds of travellers from Bangladesh, and this guide serves both without blurring them. Short-stay visitors move through the Schengen framework β€” one sticker opens twenty-nine European states and rules are uniform enough that preparation is a checklist discipline rather than a negotiation. Long-stay applicants chase something bigger: tuition-light public universities, engineering and IT roles under a points-based entry track, or vocational training that ends in recognized certification. The two routes share an application centre in Dhaka but almost nothing else β€” different forms, fee logic, appointment pools and decision timelines. Our desk files both weekly, so every section below separates them cleanly and stamps what we last verified.

Pathways & visa routes

1
Schengen Visitor Visa (Type C)
Max stay: 90 days within any 180-day period Fee: EUR 90
  • Valid passport (issued within 10 years, valid 3+ months beyond return)
  • One recent biometric passport photo (35 Γ— 45 mm, white background, 70–80% face coverage)
  • Travel medical insurance covering the whole stay
  • Flight reservation and full itinerary
  • Proof of accommodation or host declaration
  • Funds evidence (bank statements / sponsor letter)

One application covers the entire Schengen area, so a German grant also unlocks regional trips. Consular officers weigh ties-to-home heavily β€” employment letters, property and family anchors matter more than bank balance theatre. Never buy a ticket before a decision; reservations satisfy the pack.

2
National Visa (Type D) β€” University Study Route
Max stay: Duration of enrolment; renewable residence permit after arrival Fee: EUR 75
  • University admission letter
  • Blocked-account confirmation or scholarship award letter
  • Attested academic transcripts and certificates
  • Language proficiency proof (German or English programme requirements)
  • Health insurance valid from arrival day

Admission letters trigger appointments on a separate pool from tourist files. The blocked account is not a tax β€” it is your own money parked to prove self-sufficiency. Start document attestation months early; it is the most common cause of missed intakes we see.

3
Opportunity Card & Skilled Worker Track
Max stay: One-year job-search stay via the card; work permits thereafter Fee: EUR 75 Processing: up to 15 calendar days (editorial estimate); credential recognition often decides total timeline
  • Recognized degree or vocational qualification with equivalence evidence
  • Points assessment summary where applicable
  • Language proof (German A1 minimums or English B2 tracks)
  • Funds evidence for the job-search phase

The points-based card lets qualified professionals enter without a signed contract first β€” a genuine change from older rules that demanded offers upfront. Recognition of non-German qualifications is the long pole; begin it before anything else. Walk-in interviews become possible only AFTER lawful entry.

No authority publishes a fixed figure for the duration claims marked as editorial estimates on this page; each is an editorial reading, not a published rule.

Visa fees

Germany is a Schengen state, so the applicable short-stay fee is the EU Visa Code amount rather than a national German one. The German Embassy in Dhaka charges it in taka, payable at the appointment.

Schengen visa fees for applicants in Bangladesh
CategoryFee
Schengen visa, adults€90.00
Schengen visa, children aged 6 to 12€45.00
Children under 6Free
Single entry or multiple entrySame fee
Documentary verification, where it applies, not a visa fee28,000 BDT

Several groups are exempt from the fee entirely, including children under 6, school pupils and accompanying teachers on study trips, guest scientists travelling for research, exhibitors at German trade fairs holding an original exhibitor pass, and spouses and minor children of German citizens.

The 28,000 BDT line is not a visa fee. It is a separate documentary-verification charge applied in some cases, and it is listed here only so it is not mistaken for the visa fee when you budget.

Applications are submitted through the VFS Global Germany Visa Application Centre in Dhaka, which charges its own service fee in advance; that amount is not published on a readable page, so no figure is given here.

Required documents

Valid passport required

Issued within the last ten years and valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, with two blank pages.

Biometric photographs required

One recent photo (35 Γ— 45 mm) against a light background meeting Schengen dimensions; studios near Gulshan know the spec, but bring the printed requirement sheet anyway.

Travel medical insurance required

Coverage valid across all Schengen states for the entire first stay; the certificate must show coverage value, dates and geographical scope exactly.

Flight reservation required

A hold or refundable booking suffices for filing β€” a purchased non-refundable ticket before any decision is self-inflicted risk our desk advises against weekly.

Accommodation or host evidence conditional

Hotel confirmations covering every night, or a formal host declaration if staying privately; mismatched dates here trigger clarifications.

Funds evidence required

Six months of bank statements showing steady balances, or a sponsor letter plus the sponsor's own proofs; sudden large deposits invite questions.

Ties-to-home documentation conditional

Employment letter with leave approval, business registration or family circumstances β€” whatever anchors your return story in verifiable fact.

Academic credentials (long-stay routes) conditional

Attested certificates and transcripts, plus equivalence or recognition paperwork where the route demands it; attestation queues start early.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should a Bangladeshi applicant book a German Schengen appointment?

Six to eight weeks before intended travel is the comfortable window, because processing itself can take up to forty-five days in peak season and Dhaka appointment pools thin quickly around summer intakes. Filing earlier costs nothing extra and removes the single biggest source of pre-trip panic.

Is the blocked account required for students, and what actually happens to it?

For most self-funded students yes β€” Germany wants proof you can support yourself during the first year without working illegally. The money stays yours: upon arrival you open a local account and receive monthly releases from your own deposit. Scholarship winners substitute their award letter instead. Current minimum amounts come from official sources only; verify on the portal this guide cites before transferring anything.

Can the Opportunity Card be used without a confirmed job offer?

That is precisely its purpose β€” a points-based authorization letting qualified professionals enter Germany and search lawfully for a set period. You score on qualifications, language, experience and age factors against published criteria. A part-time job found during the trial period may transition into full skilled-worker sponsorship once an employer commits.

Does a German Schengen visa allow visits to other European countries?

Yes β€” the grant covers the shared Schengen area under one stay calculation, so Paris or Amsterdam side-trips ride the same approval. Your main destination rule still applies: apply through Germany when it is genuinely where you spend the longest time, not merely the cheapest appointment queue available.

What breaks applications most often at the Dhaka stage?

In our filing experience: attestation gaps on academic papers, funds narratives with unexplained deposits, travel plans whose dates disagree across insurance, hotel holds and the form itself. None are fatal if caught in review β€” which is why desk-checked packs exist. Consistency wins cases more than wealth does.

Need it done right the first time?
